LEADERSHIP
HOUSE PROGRAM
Templestowe College has initiated a House Program consisting of four houses
with associated values named after the constellations – Aquila (loyalty),
Centaur (wisdom), Dorado (courage) and Phoenix (vision ). All students
belong to a designated house and have the opportunity to participate in
activities such as House Swimming, Athletics, Talent Quest, cross country
and many and varied lunch time activities.

House
Captains
Each house is represented by two House Captains from Years 11 or 12. The
role of the House Captain is to lead by example and encourage members
of their house to actively engage in the program. House Captains work
closely with their House Coordinators to ensure an interactive and enjoyable
range of activities are offered to meet the needs of students. House Captains
must demonstrate excellent leadership qualities in order to fulfil this
role selected on the basis of previous participation, application and
an interview.
Junior
House Leaders (Arts, Sport, Environment)
Together with each House being represented by two House Captains, three
Year 9 students from each House also have the opportunity to become Junior
House Leaders in the areas of the Arts, Sport and Environment. Their role
is to assist the House Captains and work together as a team to promote
House participation in activities within the Junior School.
PEER
SUPPORT PROGRAM
In term 4 all Year 10 Health students undertake a one term program called
the ‘Hero’s Journey’ (based on the philosophy of the
Reach Foundation). This program has been adapted to assist Year 10 students
discover their journey and develop their leadership potential as Peer
Support Leaders. Then as Year 11s they have the opportunity to become
a Peer Support Leader, working with Year 7 students to ensure their transition
from Primary School to Templestowe College is a smooth and successful
one. Peer support leaders undertake further leadership training in Year
11 designed to further enhance the skills learnt in Year 10. Peer Support
Leaders work one-on-one with Year 7s, in small teams, planning and conducting
larger events, assisting with homework in Catch up club and they also
the opportunity to attend Year 7 camp.

Opportunities exist within the LOTE department for a group of students
to visit overseas destinations to study the culture and speak the language

ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN THE CURRICULUM
To cater for the various strengths and aspirations of students at Templestowe
College, there have been a number of avenues developed in which students
can pursue enrichment opportunities. Students take these opportunities
most often as a group, with a class of students taking a particular subject,
but occasionally there may be students pursuing the opportunity as individuals.
Because we are catering for the students’ strengths and interests,
what is offered this year may not be exactly the same as what is offered
next year. A new wave of advanced students may have interests or skills
in other areas, but the principle remains that opportunities for enrichment
study will be available.
In addition,
Templestowe College aims to develop in each student a sense of self-reliance
and a set of skills that will assist them in their schooling and beyond.
ACCELERATED
MATHEMATICS PROGRAM
Students are
selected for this course at the end of Year 8 based on four rigid criteria.
In addition, other students at the end of Year 9 have the opportunity
to prepare themselves for an entrance examination so that they may join
the class the following year by entering directly at Year 11 level. The
opportunity to join the class at Year 10 (to study Year 11 Mathematics)
is also available to suitable students from outside Templestowe College
who may wish to enrol.
