House System

Templestowe College has six Houses named after constellations, being Aquila, Centaur, Dorado, Orion, Pegasus and Phoenix.

Heads of House are selected for their proven ability to work positively but firmly with students and their communication skills with parents, carers and guardians. These are very senior leadership positions within the school and many such staff will go on to become Principals! Heads of House act as parent figures to students and will be responsible for both recognising and affirming positive student behaviour and for correcting and disciplining students for poor behavioural choices just as an effective parent does. It is intended that students will have the same Head of House over several years, which allows strong continuity of care. Heads of House will work in close collaboration with each student's Learning Mentor.

The Program of House events offers opportunities for participation in a range of events including athletics, lunchtime sporting competitions, beep test challenge, debating, master chef, public speaking, an art show and a talent quest. Each event and activity accrues points which go towards the House Cup which is awarded on a regular basis with an overall winner at the end of the year.
