IS THE VISION OF TEMPLESTOWE COLLEGE TO ENGAGE ALL MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY Templestowe
College draws from a broad geographic area. For one third of the students
Templestowe is not the local school and students travel some distance
each day. Student population is approximately 650 students. The College
is characterised by: The curriculum focus has been to meet local needs, as well as fulfilling the public expectations of schooling as expressed in the “Curriculum and Standards Framework” and the Victorian Certificate of Education. The curriculum is structured to ensure that students learn important content and skills throughout the compulsory years of schooling. This is achieved through a variety of learning activities, which enrich the experience and make it accessible to all students. The core program at Years 7 and 8 requires students to gain explicit knowledge in the eight Key Learning Areas of the curriculum. Through Years 9 and 10, the students are given access to a wide range of Electives, while continuing to expand their competence in the eight Key Learning Areas. Guidelines operate to ensure that student programs are balanced and coherent and that students maintain access to the major areas of study. Electives allow students to devote a portion of their program to study in-depth areas of particular interest or to begin their VCE at Year 10. At Years 11 and 12 the College adopts the practice of offering a broad range of studies and determining from student selection which subjects will be timetabled. While this inevitably has meant that students selecting an unusual combination of studies or opting for a specialist vocational course have had to change schools, the majority of our students have been satisfied that the College is providing the pathways to meet their post school requirements. The College
tries to recognise students’ individual differences particularly
in preferred ways of learning and future aspirations. The College philosophy
and practices emphasise the rights and responsibilities of students and
staff. The College aims to: The vision of the Templestowe College Charter depends for its success on the dedication of staff, the motivation of the students and the support of parents. The College is committed to maintaining and increasing the opportunities for its students, to celebrating their achievements, to improving the provision of student care and better meeting the learning needs of the students. The priorities for the school are to develop a better understanding of how students learn and to cater for them more successfully. This will necessitate the upgrading of staff skills and updated facilities, the effective use of learning technologies and gender appropriate strategies in delivering a comprehensive relevant curriculum. The College
Council has completed the reviews of curriculum and welfare, which together
with the master plan of facilities will direct the future development
of the school. The building of the gymnasium and the development of the
new Technology Centre are now completed. This will be followed by the
upgrading and refurbishment of a Performing Arts Centre in the old Gymnasium.
Templestowe College will continue to provide excellent educational opportunities
and is committed to improving curriculum provision and teaching and learning.
